SummerFolk - Set
February 12 - 14th 2026
Director: Kash Arshad-Kay

For this production, I worked as both set and costume designer; co-designing with another designer alongside my work.
I utilized my knowledge in architecture and textures to create this intertwined world of both of those features; as Summerfolk is based in the Russian countryside, I bought in those themes and the traditional imagery with the woodwork on the house. As well as the ornate woodwork, the house’s structure is that of a metal welded frame, with grey western Gauze over the structure; this would allow the house to take on a dream like appearance with lighting; tying the forest in with having the trees constructed out of Grey western gauze as well, giving in the image on stage a cohesive appearance.

Working alongside the director, we came on this image of a space that felt more like a fuzzy memory; having hyper realistic aspects such as the foliage, juxtapositioned by the starkness of the gauze.

SummerFolk - Costume
February 12 - 14th 2026
Director: Kash Arshad-Kay

On SummerFolk, I took the role of both Set & Costume, here I show my work on the costume side of my designs. Deciding to go a contemporary period style, I leaned into having the silhouettes of period but with more modern pieces of fabrics intermingled. The period that the show is originally set in is 1900’s, the turning of the century; so it would have art nouveau influences alongside the Edwardian styles of the time.
I wanted to have a clear colour language that would allow the audience to connect each character in some way; utilizing the character’s feelings and motives as a key factor into what colour became their motif.

Hypothetical live performance design - ‘The Last Dinner Party’
May 2025

This project was a hypothetical design concept; that being a live gig stage and costume design for the band ‘the Last Dinner Party’, with the main theming being art nouveau paintings and illustrations. With the set I designed it to be plain in colour, inspired by an old house sat in storage, furniture covered in cloth- almost like a ghost of its former self; with broken frames cast around, to imply that the band members broke out of these frames as long forgotten paintings. The three platforms that would make up the main stage would be modelled after ornate tables; with the idea that the lighting could show ghostly shadows of the tables under the white cloth drapes.

Hamlet

The concept for this piece was traveling theatre for a young audience; in my case I chose Hamlet, with the idea that the setting would be kids playing pretend on a playground, recreating hamlet in their fantastical imagination.
The set had to have the ability to be deconstructed and put in a van, but with that it had to be easily re-put together for the ‘next performance’ .
The settings for the hypothetical venues would be that of, The Palm House in Liverpool, Theatre Porto in Chesire and The Toxteth Library in Liverpool.

The Boy Who Went Fishing For Compliments
June 2023
The Boy Who Went Fishing For Compliments is an entirely puppet based show; In my case we focused on the construction of the ‘Angel’ puppet within the show. The show was created entirely of scraps and elements we had in our studio space, as well as being performed in the same studio space.
We created a two headed biblically inspired angel puppet, which was puppeteered by two fellow students.
Here I showcase some of the process in making each puppet head. As well as the poster that I designed for the show.

A Dolls House
May 2023

A Doll’s house, written by Henrik Ibsen, adapted by Tanika Gupta.
This hypothetical design was inspired by literal doll houses; I wanted to lean into the feeling being trapped, utilizing forced perspective making this ‘Dolls house’ feel colossal to the audience and cast, to emphasis Niru’s entrapment.
With the costume designs, I presented them in the same way that paper doll’s would be presented; to lean more into the visuals of this literal dolls house. As well as utilizing colour language, having hints of blue represent Niru, and the frequency of blue in a character’s costume showcasing their closeness and fondness to Niru.
